Miss Conception
IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO CLEAR UP MISTRUTHS
Miss conception.
It’s so easy to do.
It takes only a moment
For one to misconstrue.
A word.
A thought.
A glance.
We jump to a conclusion, giving intention no chance.
Heard it from a friend, or a neighbor, maybe a cousin indeed.
The intention was good, it’s omitted details that mislead.
Many cringe at the slightest misconception.
Others thrive from forthright deception.
The expert so sure of the facts that they swear it to all–
The sayer so certain they yell far and wide–
Only to find out that somebody lied.
It’s so hard for the righteous mind to conceive,
That there are some whose intention is strictly to deceive.
Some mistruths can destroy the strongest we know;
Like a rugged oak, so forthright and sublime,
Worn down to nothing, whittled one splinter at a time.
When there are few details, we tend to assume.
A favorite game – ‘Fill in the Blank’ – that we love to consume.
Sometimes the truth isn’t so sexy.
So we continue to propagate the lie.
Curious that no one stops to ask why.
We can always reach out and ask.
“What did you really mean?”
It takes only a moment when we reconvene.
Always so busy and wanting to be right.
Forgetting that communication takes two.
Maybe it’s me or maybe it’s not you.
A thorn in the paw – turns to a festering sore.
Often further inquiry is all that it takes.
To clear the confusion and settle the score.
